You're thinking of Mr. Belvedere. That is Michael J. Fox from Welcome Back Carter. It's about an alien who crash lands in the Tanners garage. He is always getting into shenanigans and they try to hide him from the alien task force and their nosey neighbors. All the while keeping an eye out to make sure he doesn't eat their cat.
